The yearly "Year In Review" meme. Behind the cut.

1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?

Got married.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I don’t believe I made any resolutions. And I’m not making any this year. Well, save for one tiny one which is “to have fun.” Regardless of what I’m doing, I need to enjoy myself more. I figure that’s a good plan.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Somewhat close. My great aunt. Actually, I had a second great aunt die just the other day. I hadn’t seen her in years, though.

5. What countries did you visit?

None. Unless you count Skyrim.

6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?

Maybe…more organization? 2011 was one of those transition years, especially with the moving and while my organization isn’t horrible, it could stand to be touched up.

7. What date from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

March 4 – That’s the day we went down to the County Clerk’s office and got hitched.

July 16 – The day we moved everything to Knoxville.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Probably surviving the move to Knoxville, particularly when you consider the four cats that had to be transferred.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Not sending out anymore fiction.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Insomnia in November. And a blasted cold right now. (I just downed, what I hope is a last dose of Theraflu.)

11. What was the best thing you bought?

Um…my car, possibly? 2011 Nissan Versa. The first new car, I’ve ever owned. (I’m pretty sure my 2001 Sable was about to crap out on me which is partly what prompted the purchase.)

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

No one that I can think of.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

Politicians. Neo-Conservatives. Anti-Choicers. Etc. Ad Nauseum.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Moving, my new car, rent, utilities, books, movies.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

You know…I feel like I don’t get really, really, really excited about much of anything. Or maybe it’s because I don’t really express that kind of emotion outwardly…

But, as far as things that cause excitement go, seeing CATS was probably the big one of the year. (I’d been waiting 20 years to see it, so….)

16. What song will always remind you of 2011?

Probably Audio Slave’s “Like a Stone” which was used for a fan vide for Prison Break (which I started watching this year.)

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder?

Probably about the same…

ii. thinner or fatter?

I’d say about the same. Though some people have been telling me they think I’ve lost weight. (Possibly due to living on the third floor and having to run groceries up the stairs?)

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Reading books. I feel like I don’t read as many as I used to; of course, I also feel like it’s harder to find authors whose writing style I can really get into.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

20. How will you be spending Christmas?

I spent it at home, just me and the boy. Our first year, ever, spending it alone together. (Usually, we go to my parents’ house.)

21. How will you be spending New Years?

Possibly the same way. I’m not big on being out on New Year’s Eve. Too many crowds, too much potential for hazardous drivers.

Plus, I’m just starting to get over my cold…I doubt I’ll want to be around many people.

22. Did you fall in love in 2011?

Already there, person-wise. And I’m always falling in love with something – art, movies, books, characters.

23. How many one-night stands?

None. Unless you count random character interactions in my brain – my own as well as other peoples.

24. What was your favorite TV program?

Prison Break is up there; I was very caught up in it earlier this year. I still need to finish the series. (I think, once I spoiled myself on what happens at the end, it’s made me not want to get to the end.)

Also, we just started watching Angel – which I missed when it was airing. I’m loving it. And planning on checking out the graphic novels.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

Still hate the same people. Mostly politicians.

26. What was the best book you read?

You know, I can’t even think of the books I read this year… That’s a sign that I’m not reading enough of them.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

I think I’ve listened to mostly the same music this year…but one of my newest discoveries is The Green Children.

28. What did you want and get?

A new car.

Also, Matt got me Emma Bull’s War for the Oaks for Christmas.

29. What did you want that you didn't get?

A Christmas tree. Because I didn’t want Mithril chewing on it and upsetting her sensitive tummy, as she’s prone to do.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?

As far as new films? It’s a tie between Kung Fu Panda II and Harry Potter. I’ve watched so many other movies and re-watched so many I like, I can’t possibly choose from among those.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

28 and my mother made me dinner. I don’t generally put too much oomph behind my birthdays. Maybe that’s something I should change….

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Job security. Or, at least, having some kind of clue of what the hell else I might want to do should my current job fall through

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011?

Can I sleep in it? We’re good to go. (This is what happens when you wind up working from home….)

34. What kept you sane?

Being able to take out my irritation on baddies in video games…. :)

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Umm… William Fichtner, maybe.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

The Anti-woman shit that’s been going through the country, particularly where it concerns reproductive health. The health care debacle in general…

37. Who did you miss, overall, this year?

Some friends from high school.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

I don’t meet many new people… But a few of the women in the writers group I joined here seem pretty cool.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011.

Life is life – it is what you make it – don’t be fooled by location changes.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:

She's been traveling the sidewalks for hours
Stopping as every moment of the truth wanders past

~ Michelle Lewis – Nowhere & Everywhere
